History
70 YEARS AND STILL GROWING
Through the years, American Weather Seal has thrived. In 1934, the company was founded by a dynamic, forward-thinking man by the name of Harold Etling. Combining his knowledge of windows with some good, old-fashioned, common sense, Harold designed the first, self-storing storm window.
This evolution in window technology eliminated the seasonal ritual of removing summer screens and replacing them with winter storm windows. Harold went on to invent the first custom-sized replacement window with double-insulating glass. Even after he sold the company to Georgia-Pacific in 1968, Weather-Seal continued to build on the principles Harold initially established.
As part of an antitrust settlement with the federal government in 1973, Weather-Seal became part of a new company, Louisiana-Pacific. Weather-Seal continued to grow and make product advancements under LP’s ownership. They became a leader in the window industry, offering double-hung windows with tilt-in sash for easy cleaning and improved energy efficiency from interlocking meeting rails.
In 2002, American Weather-Seal became part of the Monarch Holdings, Inc., a privately-held company specifically committed to the window industry. With this change, we became American Weather Seal.
In 2006, American Weather-Seal invested in a new multi-million dollar production facility located in Orrville, Ohio. The 200,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility manufactures insulated glass, vinyl windows and patio doors, and a light commercial line of aluminum windows.
